“I was tired of hearing the conversation between Mulder and Scully where Scully would say, “Well I’m a scientist. I believe in science and science tells me this, and then Mulder would say, “Well, I go with my gut. My gut tells me this.” I wanted them to have a conversation in which they are actually ‘in’ their dialogue rather than saying who they are, to let the way they speak say who they are, and to let them inhabit themselves rather than perching outside themselves.”
